Lifestyle Choices That Cause Childhood Obesity

How were we able to entertain ourselves before video games? The easy access of  electronic entertainment has given us lifestyle choices that produces childhood obesity, in both adults and children alike.

Going from Outdoor Activities to Indoor Couch Potatoes

As a kid I was not allowed to stay indoors except when it was nasty outside. I was healthy and trim because we were active.

When I finally got married and we had our son videos was a household item for most. Today there are thousands upon thousands of videos at our finger tips which keeps our kids parked on the couch rather than being outdoors being active.

My mother was extremely overweight fortunately for us she didn’t allow us watch TV during the day and only got about an hour in the evening before bed time. I think it was her mother’s lifestyle choices that helped my mother become so obese. I like to believe it’s why she would not let it to happen to us.

I Don’t Hear Kids Playing

I’m retired now and walk daily for heart health. It wasn’t too long ago I would see kids outdoors playing, like children should. The streets were filled with kids sadly for the last couple of years it has been like all the kids moved away. Playgrounds that used to be full are now empty most of the time, it breaks my heart.

I have also noticed that a lot of the children I see are over weight heading toward childhood obesity. They even hit puberty yet, what will their lives be like if they are allowed to continue putting on extra weight.

When we were kids we did not watch television with breakfast.

Children now get up in the morning and what do they do? They turn on the TV and stare at it all the time they are eating a breakfast consisting of mostly sugar until it’s time to go to school. When they come home from school and what do they do? They sit infront of the computer and eat while they play mind numbing games until the supper is placed in front of them.

Sadly most parents are left scratch their head wondering why their children are overweight and on their way to becoming obese.

Excuses For Keeping Kids Indoors

I have heard parents using excuses for why their kids are gaining weight and quite often that’s just what they are, excuses.

Too many parents use the computer as a baby sitter.

What Needs To Be Done To Turn Child Obesity Around

First you must get moving, you and your children.

When you’re tired, start moving and doing something, it will help to increase energy. It does work so give it a go.

I am sure you know that letting kids run around at bedtime will energize them and then they can’t get to sleep. The same thing works to energize you and your kids at just about any time, so get up and start fighting obesity.
